City View Magazine was founded in 1998 by 5 college friends who felt there was not enough coverage of the local arts & entertainment scene in Victoria B.C.. The first couple of issues put out by us where not named City View, we started with the name City Scene, but on the day our second issue went to print we received a 9 page fax from the BC Tel yellow pages lawyers who said they owned the name CityScene a magazine they print in their phone book and we had to quit using it. Who would of guessed the phone company could be wasting such a good name that way.

Well needless to say to avoid a lawsuit that we could not afford we changed our name to City View and have had no problems since, well at least not from any more corporations wanting us to changes names. Our third issue contains some of the best lawyer jokes going a rare find if you can find one. Soon we will have all of our paper issues available here via PDF we just gotta locate them all first.

For just over two years until the fall of 2001 City view printed on a monthly basis supplying Victoria with some of the greatest entertainment reporting there was, plus we had some very unique columnists including the Dreamweaver who is still with us today. Other columns we have had in the past where Beating His Willy, a rant about the local arts scene, The Angels of Mercy who supplied us with great advice for the lovelorn. The Cracked Crucible was a fantastic column of short stories; another column of interest was our Poetry Corner, which we hope to support again.

After running into some financial difficulties and some shuffling of the original partners City View decided to make the move to the internet and for the past year and a half we have been up and down and in varying stages of development, but after much work and rework we have landed on our feet again.

Only now, we are supplying Arts & Entertainment information to some of Canada's best western cities like Victoria, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary. As the site is built one section at a time, we hope that you will return to us often to see what is new and to check out your favorite columns. Our writers need your support and encouragement or discouragement, as may be the case.

We have also decided to venture beyond the area of just Arts & Entertainment to begin to include political viewpoints and opinions, so if you have one send it to us and we may give you a forum to view and vent your ideas. We have added a columnist who is sure to elicit a response from people remember his view points are not necessarily ours The Cranky Old Bastard is within our walls.

We are also supplying some of the most useful things on the internet at no cost these include The Personal Classifieds, and more are always in the works. You will also find here movie listings for your city and so much more. If there is something you think we should have here please drop us a line at morestuff@cityview.bc.ca and we will do our best to accommodate you. If you like what you see here please tell your friends if you don't like what you see please tell your friends anyway I am sure they will look just for morbid curiosity.

Thank for your support.
