Alberta, Now is the time

Dear Editor:
I am just and ordinary Canadian with simple opinions. Yet I couldn't help express the confusion I feel over this whole affair. I suspect many Canadians feel the same way. This just makes me wonder where will this all lead to in 10 years time.
Thank you for reading. Suzanne

Now is the time to invoke the notwithstanding clause in Alberta before the message and lifestyle of same-sex partnership become the norm. Currently, the Charter of Rights protects the rights of all individuals and we know the same-sex law has passed in Canada. Alberta should take this step now.
It would be a waste of time to allow same-sex marriage to become so ingrained in society only to attempt to kick it out the door later. People will not care later on. The fight to ban same-sex will peter out and the will to do so will be lost altogether. Already there is a sense in many people that the battle has been lost for good, so why bother.
Invoking the notwithstanding clause for same-sex will summon an exception to the Charter of Right's rule, “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person…” as far as the same-sex decision works and as far as marrying same-sex partners go.
Now is the time. Why wait. Do it now.
